French-bred horse Mistral del Sol put up a super display with the help of jockey Andrasch Starke to clinch the pivotal place in The President of the UAE Sorouh Derby races held on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at the historical Baden Baden Racecourse in Germany. The races, held under the patronage of UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, was sponsored by Abu Dhabi-based realtor Sorouh Real Estate P.J.S.C.

The race had a field of 12 four-year-old and above Pure-bred Arabian horses from Holland, France, Belgium, Sweden and Germany. A purse of €15,000 was earmarked as prizes.

Periandeer, bred in Holland, finished in the second place with jockey Andreas Suborics astride. Periander is owned by Ms. M.J. de Ruiter-Floor and trained by J.L. Gay.

Jarnin, who has already savoured several victories this season and last season in Europe, had to be content in third place. Jarnin was ridden by Philippe Sogorb and trained by Robert Litt. Jarnin is owned by His Excellency Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Taleb Dhaher Al Muhairi, Secretary General, UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, who was present on the occasion to give away prizes to the winners, stated: “This is indeed an important day for us at Baden Baden. It is impressive to see so many race enthusiasts who have thronged the venue despite the weather. This only goes to prove the popularity of Pure-bred Arabian horses.'' He said the races also work towards boosting the image of Abu Dhabi in particular and the UAE in general. "These races are also successful because of the constant support from the sponsors, in this case Sorouh."

He thanked the Baden Baden Racecourse officials for their warm support and cooperation and said: “Your support gives us encouragement and strength to keep coming back to Germany. I am happy we enjoy a cordial relationship from so many years and will continue do so for many more years.”

Abu Baker Khoury from Sorouh said he was immensely pleased with the outcome of the Baden Baden races. "We are pleased that our company could tie up with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation in sponsoring the races in Europe. It was a wonderful experience particularly in Baden Baden. We are happy that we have been able to showcase not only our company but also our country."

Peter Banzhaf, Technical Director for Baden Baden Racecourse, said: "It's always a pleasure to welcome the UAE Equestrian & Racing Federation to Baden Baden. For many years now we have had the pleasure of hosting this high caliber races for Arabian horses and we look forward to greater cooperation in the future".

Hubert Lorenz, Secretary Treasurer for IFAHR, commented: " As over the years, it is a pleasure to receive the UAE in Germany. They are great supporters of the Arabian horses and perhaps we would feel lost without their encouragement and support."
With the staging of the President of the UAE Challenge Derby for Pure-bred Arabians in Baden Baden, The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation-sponsored races come to an end this season in Europe and from next year, the Federation plans to introduce more venues.
