UAE show jumper Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum qualified for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games after a good performance in the Jump-Off on the concluding day of the Seventh Qatar International Show Jumping Championship on Sunday, March, 11, 2007. Sheikha Latifa was riding her own horse Kalaska De Semilly (Diamant De Semilly - Normandy Night).

In the Individual Qualifier for 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Sheikha Latifa clocked 47.72 seconds to reserve her berth for the Games. The show jumping team from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia qualified as the only team for the 2008 Games.

Sheikha Latifa was under tremendous pressure and felt she wouldn't be able to make it through just before the event. "I was under tremendous pressure in the first two rounds and it is always difficult to perform under pressure. It wasn't an easy course, as we saw not many riders got through, but at the end all matters is the qualifier for the Olympics and I have done it," said an exuberant Sheikha Latifa.

While praising the facilities and the efforts of the organising committee, Sheikha Latifa said: "The championship was organised very well, great facilities, it was a great ground to work on."

Sheikh Hamad bin Ali Al-Thani, President of Qatar Equestrian Federation, felicitated the winners of the championship.

The six-day event, which began on March 6, featured over 250 riders/horses from different national, GCC and other countries. It was organized by the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) in association with Federation Equestre Internationale, FEI, and Qatar National Olympic Committee, QNOC.

In the sixth show jumping championship held in February 2005, UAE jumper Ahmed A Ameen had made his trip to Doha a memorable one winning the Grand Prix title. Ameen rode his mount Caleeto to a splendid victory, outsmarting 25 other competitors, getting a big applause from the excited crowd.
