Night Prince wins Abu Dhabi Hydra Cup
 in Baden-Baden

Night Prince, ridden by Filip Minarek and owned by Edmont Strittmatter, won the Group 3 Abu Dhabi Hydra Cup for Thoroughbred horses at the races held on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at the Baden Baden Race Course, Germany. The race, which was sponsored by top UAE realtors Hydra Properties, was organized by the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club with the cooperation of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The race, which was run over a distance of 1,600 metres, offered a prize money of € 11,000.

Trained by Andrea Tripol Night Prince won by two and a half lengths in a time of 1:45.37.

Second place went to El Vettorio ridden by Toristan Mondrea and trained by Christian Springengel. Le Big finished third under jockey Edri Defreeze. Lobik was trained by Uweftonte Fub.

Lara Sawaya, Managing Director, Tasweeq Marketing and Urgan Winer, Vice President, Baden Baden Racing Club, gave away the trophies on a day which enjoyed a pleasant weather and good attendance.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim, Chief Executive Officer, Hydra Properties, in a message on the occasion congratulated the winning jockey and the owner. He said Hydra Properties was sponsoring several races during the season in many European countries, featuring both Thoroughbred and Pure-bred Arabian horses, to inculcate knowledge among others about the importance of these breeds. “The races also provided a good platform for the UAE in general and Abu Dhabi in particular, to get a good exposure all over the world which in turn will help the image of the country grow. Such races go a long way in promoting the event as well as the UAE’s culture and development,” Dr. Al Fahim said.

Adnan Sultan Al Nuaimi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club while thanking the sponsors said the Club was proud to be associated with the European races. “It is mutual learning experience for both the countries and we are encouraged by the success of this race. The quality of competition was very high” he added.

Lara Sawaya said: “This is the second year we are staging this race in Germany. Last year it was held in Hamburg and this year the Baden Baden race has been equally successful.” She also thanked the sponsors and added such races boosted the image of Abu Dhabi Emirate and she said plans were afoot to organize more such races and venture into new countries.
