Kandar Du Falgas & Shadiya wins in France - 1 August 2006

The second leg of the Presidents Cup series run under the directive of HH Dr Sh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Equestrian & Racing Federation was held at Deauville Racecourse in the north of France.

The President of the UAE Challenge Derby for four year old Arabians was a rematch for Madame De Kok's Robbie and HH Sh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani's Al Dahma who were joint winners in the Newmarket leg of this Championship. But neither showed their previous form and the laurels went to Kandar Du Falgas who virtually won wire to wire for HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2.18.40 three clear of Al Dahma who was 1.1/2 lengths clear of Robbie in a field of ten runners.

A high class field of nine runners went to post in the Abu Dhabi Championship for 3 year old pure Arabians. The favourite was Shanghai Express who did not have the best form, but his jockey Oliver Peslier was the peoples choice. The early leader was Al Jassour who went on to finish well back in sixth place. The winner Shadiya owned by HH Sh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was held mid field, tracking the leaders. He made his move three out to go on to win by a length from Asmara D'Aroco in a very good time of 2.20 mins.

The presentations were made by Col Hussein Mohammed Hussein Al Hammadi ,Secretary General of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation.

President of the UAE International Challenge Derby race produces dead heat in Newmarket


Robbie from The Netherlands and Al Dahma from Qatar were involved in a dead heat in the President of the UAE International Challenge Derby race series which kick started the Newmarket July Festival. Sponsored under the directives of His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, Wednesday's Newmarket meeting also witness the Group One Falmouth Stakes, also sponsored by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation.

The President of the UAE International Challenge Derby had attracted six runners and was the first in a series to be staged in many other countries.

Kandar Du Falgas, owned by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Makttoum, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Minister of Finance and Industry was taken to the front by Richard Hills.

However the Dutch runner Robbie ridden by Andrie de Vries and the Qatari challenger Al Dahma, ridden by David Bouland, began to make the move once the field headed for the finish. Robbie looked to be in a good position but Al Dahma also came up with a strong run and the two battled all the way to the finish on level terms. The judges called for a photo which failed to separate the two and the result was a rare dead-heat. Hussein Mohammad Hussein, Secretary General of the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation gave away the winning trophy to owner of Robbie, Mrs Gerda Kok and Al Dahma's French trainer Alban de Mieulle. Al Dahma is owned by Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani of Qatar.

"Today's result is another proof of what Purebred Arabian race horses can do. It was an exciting finish and once again these Arabian horses displayed a fine performance, which made the spectators happy, " said Hussein Mohammad Hussein. "The next set of races sponsored by the UAE Federation will be held in Deauville, France on July 30. Apart from the President of the UAE International Challenge Derby for 4-year-old Arabians, the Abu Dhabi Championship for 3-year-olds will also be run in Deauville," he said. UAE owner Saeed Manana sent out a smart winner in Rajeem who shocked a class field to win the Falmouth Stakes, Group One race for thoroughbreds, sponsored by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation. Trainer Clive Britain's Rajeem hit the front early in the race and jockey Kerrin McEvoy made every post a winning one. Nannina finished second followed by Musicana. Soviet Song, who was bidding to complete a Falmouth hat-trick , failed in her bid and finished sixth in the 6-horse field. Sheikh Mawana Al Maktoum and Hussein Mohammed Hussein made the presentation.
