Al Asayl Endurance Championship for Ladies on Jan. 19
Three-round series comes with point system - 17 Jan 2007


The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, in cooperation with the Al Asayl Endurance Centre, is organizing Al Asayl Ladies Championship Endurance Series, for the first time in the country.



The FEI, CEI Two-star series will comprise three 80-km rides, the first of which will be held on Friday, January 19, 2007. Round Two and Three are scheduled to be held on February 9 and March 9, 2007 respectively. The venue for all the rides will be Al Asayl Endurance Centre which is situated in Sweihan, Abu Dhabi. The rides are held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE Equestrian Federation.

Round One will be run in three phases of 30 km, 30 km, and 20 km respectively and will be flagged off at 6.30 am. The ride is being sponsored by Al Masaood Jewellers.

The same day will also feature a 40-km Federation Qualifier which will be run in two loops of 30 km and 10 km and will start at 7 am. The UAE Equestrian Federation organizes federation Qualifiers at regular intervals to enable some riders to participate in rides of higher category.

A point system has been formulated and the rider with the highest points at the end of all the three rounds will be named the UAE Ladies Endurance Champion. The point system works as follows:

1. 130 pts + Trophy
2. 100 pts + Trophy
3. 80 pts + Trophy
4. 60 pts
5. 40 pts
6-10 5 pts
11-last 1 pt

Best Conditioned Bonus Points
1. 45 pts + Trophy
2. 30 pts
3. 10 pts

Bonus points of 25 will be given to the rider who will complete all the three rounds. And another 25 points for the rider who completes all the three rides on the same horse.

His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan said the Federation was very pleased to organize endurance challenge rides for ladies in cooperation with the Al Asayl Endurance Centre.

"The high standard the endurance sport has reached in the UAE is a source of pride for us, yet it does not represent the end of our ambition. Today the Emirates boasts of world class endurance riders who have won several national and international championships, the recent victory being the one at the Asian Games in Doha."

"We would like the enthusiastic young ladies to achieve the same milestones. These Endurance Challenges organized at the Asayl Stables is just the beginning for the lady riders who can enrich themselves with more experience. Our young lady riders are slowly getting into the fray and will soon be vying for top-class national and international competitions."

An amount of Dh 111,000 will be awarded to the top five point holders at the completion of the three rounds. The rider with the highest number of points at the end of the third ride will get D. 37,000. The next four winners will get D. 29,500, Dh 22,000, Dh. 15,000 and
Dh 7,500, respectively.

Apart from this a purse of Dh 37,000 has bee allocated for each round which will be distributed among first five finishers. The first finisher will receive Dh 11,000, and the next four will get Dh. 8,500, Dh 6,000, Dh 4,000 and Dh 4,500 respectively. Best Conditioned Horse will receive a prize of Dh 4,500. Apart from the cash prize, the sponsors Al Masaood Jewellers will be presenting Concord diamond-studded watches to the first three finishers in the Round One Series.

Endurance Festival in Abu Dhabi
Sheikh Hazza triumphs 240-km ride - 8 Jan 2007


The three-day Endurance Festival, organized by the Bou Thib Endurance Village, in cooperation with the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation concluded successfully at the Bou Dhib Endurance Village. The festival was held from January 4-6, 2007. The Festival was organized under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Emirates Heritage Club.

The Festival for the first time featured a 240-km endurance ride which was stretched over to three days with each day featuring an 80-km ride. As many as 39 riders took part in the three-day grueling test of endurance and 14 of the riders completed the test successfully. Sheikh Hazza bin Sultan Al Nahyan partnered ZT Faraventure to win this prestigious event which was called Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Endurance Cup.. At the end of the ride, he was presented with a trophy by King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al Marhum Sultan Mahmoud of Malaysia, who was one of the chief guests at the Festival.

Spanish rider Jesus Manuek finished second in this ride followed by Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan in the third place.

The other important ride of the Festival was the FEI CEI Three-star 120-km, Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nayhan Novice Invitation Endurance Ride which was won by Rashed Saeed Al Kamda who was riding French Ally. Second place went to Mohammed Asif Abdul Razaq on Milqui and third place went to Muammer Abdullah Amin on Kruss. As many as 31 riders competed in the ride and only three could cross the finish line.

 

Also part of the Festival was the 100-km Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Cup for Junior and Young Riders. This ride featured 29 youngsters of whom six completed the ride distance. Maktoum Nawab Nouh Al Baloushi, riding Chupacabra finished in the first place. Second place went to Munthar Ahmad Al Bloushi on Z. Califa and the third place was bagged by Matar Ghanim Musfer Al Mansoori who rode Cherox Qadir.

The three-day festival attracted a large number of fans and lots of prizes were given away not only for the winners but also for the raffle ticket winners.

Federation sponsors Services
Jumping Championship

The UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation sponsored Services Jumping Championship in London. The Championship was part of Olympia, the 35th London International Horse Show which was held from December 12 to 18, 2006.

Members of the top eight services in the United Kingdom are eligible to take part in this show jumping championship which is held annually at the Defence Animal Centre, Meltron Mowbray. Most of the horses are Army horses who take part in ceremonial parades such as the Queen's Birthday parades and State Opening of Parliament just to mention a few.

The competition is run under its own unique rules to keep the class fast and exciting. The first round is not against the clock, however faults are carried forward to the second which is against the clock. The winner is the fastest timer in the second round with the least number of faults.

Hussein Mohammed Hussein, Secretary General, UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, stated that the Federation was immensely happy to be associated with such events. "This is the second year the Federation is sponsoring the event and we will continue to back this in the years to come," he said.
