Sheikha Latifa shows Her brilliance

Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum from the Emirates Equestrian Centre proved her dominance yet again in the show jumping competitions held on February 22 and 23, 2007, at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club premises.

Though she could not win the first place in any major classes, she finished in the second place in two rides for seniors and again fourth in another featured category. In Class A2, B1 Category, (One Round with Jump-Off), Sheikha Latifa pulled it off to clinch the second and the third places and in Class 3, A2, B1 (One Round against the Clock), she finished in the second place.

CLASS 2: C2 (One Round Against The Clock):
1. Frank Fogarolo, Couccou, Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, 43.71 seconds,

The Show Jumping competitions were organized by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation. The next competitions will again be held at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club on March 1 and 2.

 
UAE riders put up Good show in Bahrain
Bag second and third places in King's Cup

Khaled Al Eid of Saudi Arabia bagged the Grand Prix title in His Majesty the King's Cup Show Jumping Championship which was held on February 23, 2007. The CSI-W event, held at Police Mounted Centre, Budaiya, and organised by the Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation, was the FEI World Cup Jumping Qualifier for Arab League. It was held from February 21-23, 2007.

Riding Silvano, Al Eid cleared the two-round competition in 51.20 seconds and made no faults in this category which featured eight riders. Al Eid won the trophy and top prize of BD900.

The UAE riders Mohammed Ghanim Al Hajri and Ahmed Ameen put up good displays to clinch the second and third places respectively. Hajri was riding Muhajer and clocked 57.71 seconds and Ameen was riding Caleeto and his timing was 46.31 seconds.

Friday's events, which also included the closing ceremony, were attended by UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation Secretary General Hussein Mohammed Hussein and Bahrain Equestrian Federation President Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Sheikh Nasser honoured the winners in the presence of Bahrain Federation's Vice President Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Egyptian Equestrian Federation's President Abdul Fattah Rajeb and several other dignitaries and invited guests.

The three-day competitions in Bahrain also included other categories of show jumping including Qualifying Competition for the FEI World Cup Jumping Competitions, One Round with Jump-off, One round with Jump-Off Against the Clock, International Speed Class and Accumulator with Joker.

The UAE team was accompanied by Lt. Col Ronnie MacMahon, Technical Advisor, Show Jumping Department, UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, and trainers Mr. Christopher Richez from Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and Mr. Atif Shawky from the Sharjah Equestrian Club.

 
Khalid bin Sultan Wins President's Cup


Sheikh Khaled bin Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan
won the prestigious eighth HH The President of United Arab Emirates Endurance Cup held on Saturday, February 17, 2007.

Sheikh Khalid won the FEI, CEI three-star 160-km endurance ride with his partner nine-year-old Pure-Arabian bay gelding ZT Faraventure, owned by Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Emirates Heritage Club. He completed the distance in six hours, 41 minutes and 33 seconds registering an average speed of 23.91 kmph. The ride jointly organized by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation and the Emirates International Endurance Village was held at the village premises in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi, with 101 starters from different countries. Twenty-eight riders completed the ride.

Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum finished second riding Kaysand Farrazah, 11-year-old Pure-Arabian grey gelding owned by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Majid completed the ride in six hours, 47 minutes and 41 seconds riding on an average speed of 23.55 kmph.

Ali Khalfan Al Jahouri from the Al Wathba Stables finished third riding seven-year-old Pure-Arabian bay gelding Cupid. His timing to cover the distance was seven hours, one minute and 49 seconds and the average speed registered was 22.76 kmph.

The President's Cup, which is one of the most eagerly awaited rides in the UAE endurance calendar, saw riders from several countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Syria, Portugal, Spain, Uruguay, Great Britain, Australia, France, Netherlands, Italy, United States of America and Argentina.
